The difference between Tarot and Oracle cards

Tarot Vs. Oracle

Tarot cards tend to have a 'traditional structure' to the deck and common meanings. Most Tarot decks share common messages and themes. There are many different art and themes depending on what Tarot deck you purchase. Therefore, the images and pictures will vary, but usually the messaging and meaning of the cards are the same. Tarot cards are commonly used today for psychic readings and spiritual growth.

Oracle cards are very free-flowing and usually tend to be very broad and can be interpreted in many ways and can contain many different types of content. Tarot cards usually have 78 cards within a deck, some decks will sometimes have more or less. Oracle cards have no set number of cards in a deck, an Oracle deck can have as little as 10 cards or over 100 cards.

Oracle cards have specific messages that are meant to be used solo as a daily message for spiritual guidance, but can also be used in a spread or combination with a Tarot reading. They are meant to help the user with their spiritual enlightenment as each card is intended to offer self-growth and reflection opportunities.

What deck should you use?

It really shouldn't matter what deck of cards you choose to use. I like to use both Tarot and Oracle cards, depending on what mood I'm in, or what answers and guidance I am looking for. Don't worry too much about rules and logistics, just use your intuition to guide you in choosing what deck you want to use.

Is one deck better than the other?

No way! Both Tarot and Oracle decks are amazing. It usually comes down to personal preference. Some people prefer to have a specific setup that is included with Tarot, whilst others enjoy the free-flowing set up of an Oracle deck.

Can you use both?

Of course you can use both Tarot and Oracle decks! You can use them simultaneously or separately. Often people will like to draw a card from an Oracle deck at the end of a Tarot reading.
